SH 584:26-27: DOVE. A symbol of divine Science; purity and peace;
hope and faith.

SH 96:12-15, 21-7, 11-13: This material world is even now becoming the arena
for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord
and dismay; on the other side there will be
Science and peace.
Mortal error will vanish in a moral chemicalization.
This mental fermentation has begun, and will continue
until all errors of belief yield to understanding. Belief is
changeable, but spiritual understanding is changeless.
As this consummation draws nearer, he who has
shaped his course in accordance with divine Science
will endure to the end. As material knowl-
edge diminishes and spiritual understanding
increases, real objects will be apprehended mentally
instead of materially.
During this final conflict, wicked minds will endeavor
to find means by which to accomplish more evil; but
those who discern Christian Science will hold crime in
check. They will aid in the ejection of error. They
will maintain law and order, and cheerfully await the
certainty of ultimate perfection.
In reality, the more closely error simulates truth and
so-called matter resembles its essence, mortal mind, the
more impotent error becomes as a belief.
“The darkest hour precedes the dawn.”
This material world is even now becoming the arena
for conflicting forces.

SH 139:9-14: Reforms have commonly been attended with
bloodshed and persecution, even when the end has been
brightness and peace; but the present new, yet old, re-
form in religious faith will teach men patiently and wisely
to stem the tide of sectarian bitterness, whenever it flows
inward.

SH 224:8-10: There should
be painless progress, attended by life and peace instead
of discord and death.

SH 306:25-29: Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the
material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding
to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,
– is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and
eternal.

SH 264:24-27: Spiritual living
and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can
recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace
which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love.

SH 214:32-1: Spirit’s senses are with-
out pain, and they are forever at peace.

SH 144:20-22: Truth, and
not corporeal will, is the divine power which says to
disease, “Peace, be still.

SH 265:1-15: Man is the off-
spring, not of the lowest, but of the highest qualities of
Mind. Man understands spiritual existence
in proportion as his treasures of Truth and
Love are enlarged. Mortals must gravitate Godward,
their affections and aims grow spiritual, – they must near
the broader interpretations of being, and gain some proper
sense of the infinite, – in order that sin and mortality
may be put off.
This scientific sense of being, forsaking matter for
Spirit, by no means suggests man’s absorption into Deity
and the loss of his identity, but confers upon man en-
larged individuality, a wider sphere of thought and action,
a more expansive love, a higher and more permanent
peace.

SH 506:10-12: Through divine Science, Spirit, God, unites under-
standing to eternal harmony. The calm and exalted
thought or spiritual apprehension is at peace.

Continuing in love

SH 77:5-6: Existence continues to be a belief of corporeal sense
until the Science of being is reached.

SH 21:9-14: If the disciple is advancing spiritually, he is striv-
ing to enter in. He constantly turns away from ma-
terial sense, and looks towards the imperishable things
of Spirit. If honest, he will be in earnest from the
start, and gain a little each day in the right direction,
till at last he finishes his course with joy.

SH 96:4-11 (to 1st .), 15: Love will finally mark the hour of harmony, and spir-
itualization will follow, for Love is Spirit. Before error
is wholly destroyed, there will be interrup-
tions of the general material routine. Earth
will become dreary and desolate, but summer and winter,
seedtime and harvest (though in changed forms), will
continue unto the end, – until the final spiritualization of
all things.
Science and peace. The breaking up of mate-
rial beliefs may seem to be famine and pestilence, want
and woe, sin, sickness, and death, which assume new
phases until their nothingness appears. These disturb-
ances will continue until the end of error, when all
discord will be swallowed up in spiritual Truth.

changeable, but spiritual understanding is changeless.

SH 118:20: In all mortal forms of thought, dust
is dignified as the natural status of men and things, and
modes of material motion are honored with the name of
laws. This continues until the leaven of Spirit changes
the whole of mortal thought, as yeast changes the chemical
properties of meal.

SH 124:14-19: The universe, like man, is to be interpreted by Science
from its divine Principle, God, and then it can be under-
stood; but when explained on the basis of
physical sense and represented as subject to
growth, maturity, and decay, the universe, like man, is,
and must continue to be, an enigma.

SH 173:17: Anatomy declares man to be structural. Physiology
continues this explanation, measuring human
strength by bones and sinews, and human life
by material law. Man is spiritual, individual, and eter-
nal; material structure is mortal.
Phrenology makes man knavish or honest according to
the development of the cranium; but anatomy, physiology,
phrenology, do not define the image of God, the real im-
mortal man.

SH 99:21-22: I
love mankind, and shall continue to labor and to endure.

SH 254:10-23: When we wait
patiently on God and seek Truth righteously, He directs
our path. Imperfect mortals grasp the ultimate of spir-
itual perfection slowly; but to begin aright and to con-
tinue the strife of demonstrating the great problem of
being, is doing much.
During the sensual ages, absolute Christian Science
may not be achieved prior to the change called death,
for we have not the power to demonstrate what we do
not understand. But the human self must be evangel-
ized. This task God demands us to accept lovingly
to-day, and to abandon so fast as practical the material,
and to work out the spiritual which determines the out-
ward and actual.

SH 334:12-20: This dual personality of the
unseen and the seen, the spiritual and mate-
rial, the eternal Christ and the corporeal Jesus manifest
in flesh, continued until the Master’s ascension, when
the human, material concept, or Jesus, disappeared,
while the spiritual self, or Christ, continues to exist in
the eternal order of divine Science, taking away the sins
of the world, as the Christ has always done, even before
the human Jesus was incarnate to mortal eyes.

SH 403:14-20: You command the situation if you understand that
mortal existence is a state of self-deception and not the
truth of being. Mortal mind is constantly
producing on mortal body the results of false
opinions; and it will continue to do so, until mortal
error is deprived of its imaginary powers by Truth,
which sweeps away the gossamer web of mortal illusion.

SH 507:24: Infinite Mind creates and governs all, from the men-
tal molecule to infinity. This divine Principle of all
expresses Science and art throughout His
creation, and the immortality of man and the
universe. Creation is ever appearing, and must ever con-
tinue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.
Mortal sense inverts this appearing and calls ideas mate-
rial. Thus misinterpreted, the divine idea seems to fall
to the level of a human or material belief, called mortal
man. But the seed is in itself, only as the divine Mind
is All and reproduces all – as Mind is the multiplier,
and Mind’s infinite idea, man and the universe, is the
product. The only intelligence or substance of a thought,
a seed, or a flower is God, the creator of it. Mind is the
Soul of all. Mind is Life, Truth, and Love which gov-
erns all.

SH 267:3-5 (to 1st .): The offspring of God start not from matter
or ephemeral dust. They are in and of Spirit,
divine Mind, and so forever continue.

SH Acts 14:3: 3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands.

SH 10:5-13: The world must grow to the spiritual understanding
of prayer. If good enough to profit by Jesus’ cup of
earthly sorrows, God will sustain us under these sor-
rows. Until we are thus divinely qualified and are
willing to drink his cup, millions of vain repetitions
will never pour into prayer the unction of Spirit in
demonstration of power and “with signs following.”
Christian Science reveals a necessity for overcoming the
world, the flesh, and evil, and thus destroying all error.

SH 38:10-14: Jesus said: “These signs shall follow them that be-
lieve; . . . they shall lay hands on the sick, and they
shall recover.” Who believes him? He was addressing
his disciples, yet he did not say, “These signs shall follow
you,” but them- “them that believe” in all time to come.

SH 150:12-17: Now, as then,
signs and wonders are wrought in the metaphysical heal-
ing of physical disease; but these signs are only to demon-
strate its divine origin, – to attest the reality of the higher
mission of the Christ-power to take away the sins of the
world.

SH 98:4-7: The prophet of to-day beholds in the mental horizon
the signs of these times, the reappearance of the Chris-
tianity which heals the sick and destroys error,
and no other sign shall be given.

SH 107:1-14: In the year 1866, I discovered the Christ Science or
divine laws of Life, Truth, and Love, and
named my discovery Christian Science. God
had been graciously preparing me during many
years for the reception of this final revelation of the ab-
solute divine Principle of scientific mental healing.
This apodictical Principle points to the revelation of
Immanuel, “God with us,” – the sovereign ever-pres-
ence, delivering the children of men from
every ill “that flesh is heir to.” Through
Christian Science, religion and medicine are
inspired with a diviner nature and essence; fresh pinions
are given to faith and understanding, and thoughts ac-
quaint themselves intelligently with God.

SH 108:1, 19-10: Whence came to me this heavenly conviction, – a con-
viction antagonistic to the testimony of the physical senses?
According to St. Paul, it was “the gift of the grace of
God given unto me by the effectual working of His power.”
It was the divine law of Life and Love, unfolding to me
the demonstrable fact that matter possesses neither sen-
sation nor life; that human experiences show the falsity
of all material things; and that immortal cravings, “the
price of learning love,” establish the truism that the
only sufferer is mortal mind, for the divine Mind cannot
suffer.
When apparently near the confines of mortal existence,
standing already within the shadow of the death-valley,
I learned these truths in divine Science: that
all real being is in God, the divine Mind, and
that Life, Truth, and Love are all-powerful and ever-
present; that the opposite of Truth, – called error, sin,
sickness, disease, death, – is the false testimony of false
material sense, of mind in matter; that this false sense
evolves, in belief, a subjective state of mortal mind which
this same so-called mind names matter thereby shutting
out the true sense of Spirit.
My discovery, that erring, mortal, misnamed
mind produces all the organism and action of
the mortal body, set my thoughts to work in new channels,
and led up to my demonstration of the proposition that
Mind is All and matter is naught as the leading factor in
Mind-science.
Christian Science reveals incontrovertibly that Mind
is All-in-all, that the only realities are the divine Mind
and idea. This great fact is not, however, seen
to be supported by sensible evidence, until its
divine Principle is demonstrated by healing the sick and
thus proved absolute and divine. This proof once seen,
no other conclusion can be reached.

SH 109:11-22, 32-12: For three years after my discovery, I sought the solu-
tion of this problem of Mind-healing, searched the Scrip-
tures and read little else, kept aloof from so-
ciety, and devoted time and energies to dis-
covering a positive rule. The search was sweet, calm, and
buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing. I knew
the Principle of all harmonious Mind-action to be God,
and that cures were produced in primitive Christian
healing by holy, uplifting faith; but I must know the
Science of this healing, and I won my way to absolute
conclusions through divine revelation, reason, and dem-
onstration.
The three great verities of Spirit, omnipotence, omni-
presence, omniscience, – Spirit possessing all power,
filling all space, constituting all Science, – contradict
forever the belief that matter can be actual.
These eternal verities reveal primeval exist-
ence as the radiant reality of God’s creation,
in which all that He has made is pronounced by His wis-
dom good.
Thus it was that I beheld, as never before, the awful
unreality called evil. The equipollence of God brought
to light another glorious proposition, – man’s perfecti-
bility and the establishment of the kingdom of heaven on
earth.

SH 110:25: Jesus demonstrated the power of Christian Science to
heal mortal minds and bodies. But this power was lost
sight of, and must again be spiritually dis-
cerned, taught, and demonstrated according
to Christ’s command, with “signs following.”
Its Science must be apprehended by as many as believe
on Christ and spiritually understand Truth.

SH 117:6-13: God is Spirit; therefore the language of Spirit must
be, and is, spiritual. Christian Science attaches no physi-
cal nature and significance to the Supreme
Being or His manifestation; mortals alone do
this. God’s essential language is spoken of in the last
chapter of Mark’s Gospel as the new tongue, the spir-
itual meaning of which is attained through “signs
following.

SH 383:5: One says: “I take good care of my body.”
To do this, the pure and exalting influence of
the divine Mind on the body is requisite, and the Christian
Scientist takes the best care of his body when he leaves
it most out of his thought, and, like the Apostle Paul, is
“willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be pres-
ent with the Lord.

SH 33:31-2, 5, 18-23: you have commemorated Jesus in his cup? Are all
who eat bread and drink wine in memory of Jesus willing
truly to drink his cup, take his cross, and leave all for
the Christ-principle?
which of old had fed in the wilderness the
persecuted followers of Truth. Their bread
indeed came down from heaven. It was the great truth
of spiritual being, healing the sick and casting out error.
Their Master had explained it all before, and now this
bread was feeding and sustaining them. They had borne
this bread from house to house, breaking (explaining) it to
others, and now it comforted themselves.
When the human element in him struggled with the
divine, our great Teacher said: “Not my will, but
Thine, be done!”- that is, Let not the flesh,
but the Spirit, be represented in me. This
is the new understanding of spiritual Love. It gives all
for Christ, or Truth.

SH 570:30 ; 571:10-12 (to .): Many are willing to open the eyes of the people to the
power of good resident in divine Mind, but they are
not so willing to point out the evil in human thought,
and expose evil’s hidden mental ways of accomplishing
iniquity.

SH 41:22-25, 28-30: Jesus foresaw the reception Christian Science would have
before it was understood, but this foreknowledge hindered
him not. He fulfilled his God-mission, and
then sat down at the right hand of the Father.
The truth taught by Jesus, the elders scoffed at.
Why? Because it demanded more than they were willing
to practise.

SH 369:16: Jesus never asked if disease were acute or
chronic, and he never recommended atten-
tion to laws of health, never gave drugs, never prayed
to know if God were willing that a man should live. He
understood man, whose life is God, to be immortal, and
knew that man has not two lives, one to be destroyed and
the other to be made indestructible.

SH 323:32-2: Willingness to become as a little child and
to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of
the advanced idea.

SH 271:26-29 (to 1st .): Those, who are willing to leave their nets or to cast
them on the right side for Truth, have the opportunity
now, as aforetime, to learn and to practise
Christian healing.

SH x:11-13: The author has not compromised conscience to suit
the general drift of thought, but has bluntly and hon-
estly given the text of Truth.

SH ix:16-19: To-day, though rejoicing
in some progress, she still finds herself a willing dis-
ciple at the heavenly gate, waiting for the Mind of
Christ.

SH 583:10-11: CHRIST. The divine manifestation of God, which comes
to the flesh to destroy incarnate error.

SH 589:16-18: JESUS. The highest human corporeal concept of the
divine idea, rebuking and destroying error and bringing
to light man’s immortality.

SH vii:2-4: been fully tested and has not been found wanting; but
to reach the heights of Christian Science, man must live
in obedience to its divine Principle.

SH 246:13-16: As the physical and mate-
rial, the transient sense of beauty fades, the radiance of
Spirit should dawn upon the enraptured sense with bright
and imperishable glories.

SH 247:13-15: Im-
mortality, exempt from age or decay, has a glory of its
own, – the radiance of Soul.

SH 561:26-27: The spiritual idea is clad with the radiance
of spiritual Truth, and matter is put under her feet.

SH 252:16: Material sense lifts its voice
with the arrogance of reality and says:

SH 252:25-26, 31 (only): I am enthroned in the gorgeousness
of matter.
Spirit, bearing opposite testimony, saith:

SH 253:2-4: Infinity. The beauty of holiness, the perfection of being,
imperishable glory, – all are Mine, for I am
God.

SH 367:24-27, 30-32: The infinite Truth of the Christ-cure has come to this
age through a “still, small voice,” through silent utter-
ances and divine anointing which quicken and increase
the beneficial effects of Christianity.
Because Truth is infinite, error should be known as
nothing. Because Truth is omnipotent in goodness,
error, Truth’s opposite, has no might.

SH 369:5: In proportion as matter loses to human sense all en-
tity as man, in that proportion does man become its
master. He enters into a diviner sense of the
facts, and comprehends the theology of Jesus
as demonstrated in healing the sick, raising the dead,
and walking over the wave. All these deeds manifested
Jesus’ control over the belief that matter is substance,
that it can be the arbiter of life or the constructor of any
form of existence.

SH 26:1-18: While we adore Jesus, and the heart overflows with
gratitude for what he did for mortals, – treading alone
his loving pathway up to the throne of
glory, in speechless agony exploring the way
for us, – yet Jesus spares us not one individual expe-
rience, if we follow his commands faithfully; and all
have the cup of sorrowful effort to drink in proportion
to their demonstration of his love, till all are redeemed
through divine Love.
The Christ was the Spirit which Jesus implied in his
own statements: “I am the way, the truth, and the life;”
“I and my Father are one.” This Christ,
or divinity of the man Jesus, was his divine
nature, the godliness which animated him. Divine Truth,
Life, and Love gave Jesus authority over sin, sickness,
and death. His mission was to reveal the Science of
celestial being, to prove what God is and what He does
for man.

SH 200:25: St. Paul said: “For I determined not to know any-
thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.”
(I Cor. ii. 2.) Christian Science says: I am determined
not to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and
him glorified.

SH 244:7-12: If we were to derive all our conceptions of man from
what is seen between the cradle and the grave, happi-
ness and goodness would have no abiding-place in man,
and the worms would rob him of the flesh; but Paul
writes: “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath
made me free from the law of sin and death.

SH 313:1 The: The term
Christ Jesus, or Jesus the Christ (to give the full and
proper translation of the Greek), may be ren-
dered “Jesus the anointed,” Jesus the God-
crowned or the divinely royal man, as it is said of him in
the first chapter of Hebrews: –
Therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee
With the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

SH 141:13-19 (to 2nd .): royal dynasty. In healing the sick and sinning,
Jesus elaborated the fact that the healing effect
followed the understanding of the divine Principle and
of the Christ-spirit which governed the corporeal Jesus.
For this Principle there is no dynasty, no ecclesiastical
monopoly. Its only crowned head is immortal sover-
eignty.

SH Eccl. 9:13-18 (to 1st :): 13 This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, and it seemed great unto me: 14 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it: 15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man. 16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man’s wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. 17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. 18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war:

SH Ps. 119:105: 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

SH Ps. 36:5, 9: 5 Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds. 9 For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light.

SH xi:9-21: The physical healing of Christian Science results
now, as in Jesus’ time, from the operation of divine
Principle, before which sin and disease lose their real-
ity in human consciousness and disappear as naturally
and as necessarily as darkness gives place to light and
sin to reformation. Now, as then, these mighty works
are not supernatural, but supremely natural. They are
the sign of Immanuel, or “God with us,” a divine
influence ever present in human consciousness and re-
peating itself, coming now as was promised aforetime,
To preach deliverance to the captives [of sense],
And recovering of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty them that are bruised.

SH 596:23-25: Though the way is dark in mortal sense, divine Life
and Love illumine it, destroy the unrest of mortal thought,
the fear of death, and the supposed reality of error.

SH 338:1-8: Christian Science, rightly under-
stood, leads to eternal harmony. It brings to light the
only living and true God and man as made in His like-
ness; whereas the opposite belief – that man originates
in matter and has beginning and end, that he is both
soul and body, both good and evil, both spiritual and
material – terminates in discord and mortality, in the
error which must be destroyed by Truth.

SH 560:6: 1. And there appeared a great wonder in
heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon
under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars.

SH 562:3: Ghost,- divine Science. As Elias presented
the idea of the fatherhood of God, which Jesus
afterwards manifested, so the Revelator completed this
figure with woman, typifying the spiritual idea of God’s
motherhood. The moon is under her feet. This idea
reveals the universe as secondary and tributary to Spirit,
from which the universe borrows its reflected light, sub-
stance, life, and intelligence.

SH 557:18: “In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children.” Divine
Science rolls back the clouds of error with the light of
Truth, and lifts the curtain on man as never born and as
never dying, but as coexistent with his creator.

SH 538:11-13: The sun, giving light and heat to the earth, is a figure
of divine Life and Love, enlightening and sustaining the
universe.

SH 511:11-14: In divine Science, which is the seal of Deity and has
the impress of heaven, God is revealed as in-
finite light. In the eternal Mind, no night is
there.

SH 508:26-4: 13. And the evening and the morning were
the third day.
The third stage in the order of Christian Science is an
important one to the human thought, letting in the light
of spiritual understanding. This period corresponds to
the resurrection, when Spirit is discerned to be the Life of
all, and the deathless Life, or Mind, dependent
upon no material organization.

SH 505:26-28: This understanding is not intellectual, is not the result
of scholarly attainments; it is the reality of all things
brought to light.

SH 503:12-15: Divine Science, the Word of
God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, “God
is All-in-all,” and the light of ever-present Love illumines
the universe.

SH 454:18-19: Love inspires,
illumines, designates, and leads the way.

SH 503:20-22: Immortal and divine Mind presents the idea of God:
first, in light; second, in reflection; third, in spiritual and
immortal forms of beauty and goodness.

SH 479:23: Darkness and chaos
are the imaginary opposites of light, understanding,
and eternal harmony, and they are the elements of
nothingness.

SH 474:31-32: Truth destroys falsity and error, for light and
darkness cannot dwell together.

SH 461:1-4, 11: real man is immortal and that he lives in
Spirit, not matter. Christian Science must
be accepted at this period by induction. We admit the
whole, because a part is proved and that part illustrates
because Science reverses the evidence before the material
senses and furnishes the eternal interpretation of God and
man.

SH 305:6-8: Man, in the
likeness of his Maker, reflects the central light
of being, the invisible God.

SH Matt. 6:30 if: 30 if God so clothe the grass
of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not
much more clothe you,
O ye of little faith?

SH 20:24: Material belief is slow to acknowledge what the
spiritual fact implies. The truth is the centre of all
religion. It commands sure entrance into
the realm of Love. St. Paul wrote, “Let us
lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so
easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that
is set before us;” that is, let us put aside material self
and sense, and seek the divine Principle and Science of
all healing.

SH 425:15-17, 23-26: Mortal man will be less mortal, when he
learns that matter never sustained existence
and can never destroy God, who is man’s Life.
Consciousness constructs a better body when
faith in matter has been conquered. Correct material
belief by spiritual understanding, and Spirit will form
you anew.

SH vii:13-21: The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent
of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the
portal of humanity. Contentment with
the past and
the cold conventionality of materialism are crumbling
away. Ignorance of God is no longer the stepping-
stone to faith. The only guarantee of obedience is a
right apprehension of Him whom to know aright is
Life eternal. Though empires fall, “the Lord shall
reign forever.”

SH xi:1-8: Many imagine that the phenomena of physical heal-
ing in Christian Science present only a phase of the
action of the human mind, which action in some unex-
plained way results in the cure of disease. On the con-
trary, Christian Science rationally explains that all
other pathological methods are the fruits of human
faith in matter, faith in the workings, not of Spirit,
but of the fleshly mind which must yield to Science.

SH 93:15-17: Good does not create a mind susceptible of causing
evil, for evil is the opposing error and not the truth of
creation.

SH 107:10: Through
Christian Science, religion and medicine are
inspired with a diviner nature and essence; fresh pinions
are given to faith and understanding, and thoughts ac-
quaint themselves intelligently with God.

SH 125:12-16: As human thought changes from one stage to an-
other of conscious pain and painlessness, sorrow and
joy, – from fear to hope and from faith to understand-
ing, – the visible manifestation will at last be man gov-
erned by Soul, not by material sense.

SH 145:31-2 (to 1st .), 5-6, 7: The
theology of Christian Science includes healing
the sick. Our Master’s first article of faith propounded
to his students was healing, and he proved his faith by
his works.The first idol–
atry was faith in matter. By
trusting matter to destroy its own discord, health and
harmony have been sacrificed. Such systems are
barren
of the vitality of spiritual power, by which material
sense
is made the servant of Science and religion becomes
Christlike.

SH 209:31: Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to un-
derstand God. It shows the superiority of faith by works
over faith in words. Its ideas are expressed only in “new
tongues;” and these are interpreted by the translation of
the spiritual original into the language which human
thought can comprehend.

SH 487:25-29: The Apostle James said, “Show me thy faith without
thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.”
The understanding that Life is God, Spirit, lengthens
our days by strengthening our trust in the deathless
reality of Life, its almightiness and immortality.

SH 561:1: The understanding of Truth
and Love, the Principle which works out the ends of eternal
good and destroys both faith in evil and the practice of
evil, leads to the discernment of the divine idea.

SH 45:16-21: Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts!
Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of hu-
man hope and faith, and through the reve-
lation and demonstration of life in God, hath
elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual
idea of man and his divine Principle, Love.

SH 129:22-24: We must look deep
into realism instead of accepting only the out-
ward sense of things.

SH 1:1-4: THE prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the
sick is an absolute faith that all things are
possible to God,- a spiritual understanding of Him,
an unselfed love.

SH 180:25-27: When man is governed by God, the ever-present
Mind who understands all things, man knows that with
God all things are possible.

SH 281:14: The one Ego, the one Mind or Spirit called God, is
infinite individuality, which supplies all form and come-
liness and which reflects reality and divinity in individual
spiritual man and things.

SH 385:7-11: The spiritual
demand, quelling the material, supplies energy and en-
durance surpassing all other aids, and forestalls the
penalty which our beliefs would attach to our best
deeds.

SH 406:20-25 We: We can, and ultimately
shall, so rise as to avail ourselves in every direc-
tion of the supremacy of Truth over error, Life
over death, and good over evil, and this growth will go
on until we arrive at the fulness of God’s idea, and no
more fear that we shall be sick and die.

SH 12:31: In divine
Science, where prayers are mental, all may avail them-
selves of God as “a very present help in trouble.”
Love is impartial and universal in its adaptation and
bestowals. It is the open fount which cries, “Ho,
every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters.

SH 479:18: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the
earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and
darkness was upon the face of the deep.”
(Genesis i. 1, 2.) In the vast forever, in the
Science and truth of being, the only facts are Spirit
and its innumerable creations. Darkness and chaos
are the imaginary opposites of light, understanding,
and eternal harmony, and they are the elements of
nothingness.

SH 503:9: The divine Principle and idea constitute spiritual har-
mony, – heaven and eternity. In the universe of Truth,
matter is unknown. No supposition of error
enters there. Divine Science, the Word of
God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, “God
is All-in-all,” and the light of ever-present Love illumines
the universe. Hence the eternal wonder, – that infinite
space is peopled with God’s ideas, reflecting Him in
countless spiritual forms.

SH 206:15-18: In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that
whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with
the loaves and the fishes, – Spirit, not matter, being the
source of supply.

SH 216:11-14: The understanding that the Ego is Mind, and that
there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to
destroy the errors of mortal sense and to supply
the truth of immortal sense.

SH 513:6-10: Advancing spiritual steps in the teeming universe of
Mind lead on to spiritual spheres and exalted beings. To
material sense, this divine universe is dim and
distant, gray in the sombre hues of twilight;
but anon the veil is lifted, and the scene shifts into light.

SH 254:27-32: If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but
healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms.
Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the
cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it
you win and wear the crown. Pilgrim on earth, thy home
is heaven;

SH 14:12-15, 16-18: Become conscious for a single moment that Life and
intelligence are purely spiritual, – neither in nor of
matter, – and the body will then utter no
complaints.
Sorrow
is turned into joy when the body is controlled by spir-
itual Life, Truth, and Love.

SH 60:2, 24-28, 31-2: Science inevitably lifts one’s being higher in the scale of
harmony and happiness.
An ill-attuned ear calls discord harmony, not appreciat-
ing concord. So physical sense, not discerning the true
happiness of being, places it on a false basis.
Science will correct the discord, and teach us
life’s sweeter harmonies.
Higher
enjoyments alone can satisfy the cravings of immortal
man. We cannot circumscribe happiness within the
limits of personal sense.

SH 246:1-5: Man is not
a pendulum, swinging between evil and good, joy and
sorrow, sickness and health, life and death.
Life and its faculties are not measured by
calendars.

SH 250:30: Science reveals Life as not being
at the mercy of death, nor will Science admit that happi-
ness is ever the sport of circumstance.

SH 536:24-26: Mortal mind accepts the erroneous, material concep-
tion of life and joy, but the true idea is gained from the
immortal side.

SH 304:16-17, 18-19: Harmony is produced by its Principle, is controlled
by it and abides with it.
Man’s happiness is not, therefore, at
the disposal of physical sense.

SH 57:18: Happiness is spiritual,
born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; therefore
it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to
share it.

SH 58:7: Unselfish
ambition, noble life-motives, and purity, –
these constituents of thought, mingling, constitute in-
dividually and collectively true happiness, strength, and
permanence.

SH 359:20: implies? From Puritan parents, the discov-
erer of Christian Science early received her
religious education. In childhood, she often listened
with joy to these words, falling from the lips of her
saintly mother, “God is able to raise you up from sick-
ness;” and she pondered the meaning of that Scripture
she so often quotes: “And these signs shall follow them
that believe; . . . they shall lay hands on the sick,
and they shall recover.

SH 152:21: The author’s medical researches and experiments had
prepared her thought for the metaphysics of Christian
Science. Every material dependence had
failed her in her search for truth; and she can
now understand why, and can see the means
by which mortals are divinely driven to a spiritual source
for health and happiness.

SH 262:17-23: Job said: “I have heard of Thee by the hearing of the
ear: but now mine eye seeth Thee.” Mortals will echo
Job’s thought, when the supposed pain and
pleasure of matter cease to predominate. They
will then drop the false estimate of life and happiness, of
joy and sorrow, and attain the bliss of loving unselfishly,
working patiently, and conquering all that is unlike God.

SH 548:9: How little light or heat reach our earth when clouds
cover the sun’s face! So Christian Science can be seen
only as the clouds of corporeal sense roll away.
Earth has little light or joy for mortals before
Life is spiritually learned. Every agony of mortal error
helps error to destroy error, and so aids the apprehension
of immortal Truth. This is the new birth going on
hourly, by which men may entertain angels, the true
ideas of God, the spiritual sense of being.

SH 72:30-32: Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the com-
municator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and
humanity.

SH 340:15-22: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus
xx. 3.) The First Commandment is my favorite text.
It demonstrates Christian Science. It inculcates the tri-
unity of God, Spirit, Mind; it signifies that man shall
have no other spirit or mind but God, eternal good, and
that all men shall have one Mind. The divine Principle
of the First Commandment bases the Science of being, by
which man demonstrates health, holiness, and life eternal.
