Listening and going up higher, Wed., 4/30/14 Readings, 2nd Church Berkeley
SH Mat 10:8 1st freely
8 …freely ye have received, freely give.
SH Isa. 49:1 (to 3rd ;), 8 (to 1st :), 13, 18 (to 1st :)
1 Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; 8 Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped thee: 13 Sing, O heavens; and be joyful, O earth; and break forth into singing, O mountains: for the LORD hath comforted his people, and will have mercy upon his afflicted. 18 Lift up thine eyes round about, and behold:
SH Gen. 6:8 1st Noah, 13 (to 1st ,), 18 1st with, 19, 21
8 …Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. 13 And God said unto Noah, 18 …with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 21 And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.
SH Ex. 3:7, 9-12
7 And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; 9 Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come unto me: and I have also seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them. 10 Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. 11 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.
SH Matt. 14:14 1st Jesus
14 …Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
SH Matt. 13:10, 11, 13, 16
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
SH Mark 7:32-35
32 And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him. 33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue; 34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. 35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
SH John 10:1-5, 14
1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. 4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. 5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
SH Rev. 2:7 (to 1st ;)
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;
SH Isa. 30:15 (to 1st :), 18 1st for, 19 1st he, 21
15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength: 18 …for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him. 19 …he will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear it, he will answer thee. 21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.
SH 2:1 Do
Do we pray to
make ourselves better or to benefit those who hear us,
to enlighten the infinite or to be heard of
men? Are we benefited by praying? Yes,
the desire which goes forth hungering after righteous-
ness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return
unto us void.
SH 586:3
EYES. Spiritual discernment, – not material but
mental. Jesus said, thinking of the outward vision, “Having
eyes, see ye not?
SH 585:1
EARS. Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses,
but spiritual understanding.
SH 8:28-32
We should examine ourselves and learn what is the
affection and purpose of the heart, for in this way
only can we learn what we honestly are. If a
friend informs us of a fault, do we listen pa-
tiently to the rebuke and credit what is said?
SH 248:15-16 (to 1st ?), 19-20, 25-26
ing thought. What is the model before mortal
mind?
Do you not hear from all
mankind of the imperfect model?
To remedy this, we must first turn our gaze in the right
direction, and then walk that way.
SH 237:15-18
Children should be taught the Truth-cure, Christian
Science, among their first lessons, and kept from discuss-
ing or entertaining theories or thoughts about
sickness.
SH 238:25-26 (to 1st .)
Society is a foolish juror, listening only to one side of
the case.
SH 238:10
“If God be
for us, who can be against us?
SH 213:16
Sound is a mental impression made on mortal belief.
The ear does not really hear. Divine Science reveals
sound as communicated through the senses of Soul –
through spiritual understanding.
SH 284:15-16, 21 (only), 28-32
like the infinite? Can Deity be known through
the material senses?
The physical senses can obtain no proof of God.
According to Christian Science, the only real senses
of man are spiritual, emanating from divine Mind.
Thought passes from God to man, but neither sensation
nor report goes from material body to Mind. The in-
tercommunication is always from God to His idea, man.
SH 359:20
implies? From Puritan parents, the discov-
erer of Christian Science early received her
religious education. In childhood, she often listened
with joy to these words, falling from the lips of her
saintly mother, “God is able to raise you up from sick-
ness;” and she pondered the meaning of that Scripture
she so often quotes: “And these signs shall follow them
that believe; . . . they shall lay hands on the sick,
and they shall recover.
SH 571:7-12 (to .)
than when you tell them their vices. It re-
quires the spirit of our blessed Master to tell a man his
faults, and so risk human displeasure for the sake of doing
right and benefiting our race. Who is telling mankind
of the foe in ambush? Is the informer one who sees the
foe?
SH 249:6-9
Let us feel the divine energy of Spirit, bringing us into
newness of life and recognizing no mortal nor
material power as able to destroy. Let us re-
joice that we are subject to the divine “powers that be.
SH 323:28-32
The effects of Christian Science are not so much seen
as felt. It is the “still, small voice” of Truth
uttering itself. We are either turning away
from this utterance, or we are listening to it and going
up higher.
