Man, the expression of Soul

Readings for Wed., 9/2/15, Second Church, Berkeley
SH Ps. 42:1, 2, 5, 8
1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance. 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
SH Ps. 51:10, 12, 16 1st thou, 17
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 16 …thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
SH Ps. 90:1, 2, 14, 16, 17 (to 1st .)
1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations. 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God. 14 O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 16 Let thy work appear unto thy servants, and thy glory unto their children. 17 And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us; yea, the work of our hands establish thou it.
SH Ps. 103:8, 20, 22 2nd bless
8 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. 20 Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. 22 Bless the LORD, all his works in all places of his dominion: bless the LORD, O my soul.
SH Matt. 14:14 1st Jesus
14 …Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.
SH Luke 15:1-10
1 Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and scribes murmured, saying, This man receiveth sinners, and eateth with them. 3 And he spake this parable unto them, saying, 4 What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? 5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. 7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. 8 Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? 9 And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. 10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
SH Acts 10:38 1st God
38 …God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
SH Eph. 4:1-3
1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, 2 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
SH Col. 3:3 1st your, 15-17
3 …your life is hid with Christ in God. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
SH 9:17
Dost thou “love the Lord thy God with all thy
heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind”?
This command includes much, even the sur-
render of all merely material sensation, affec-
tion, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity.
It involves the Science of Life, and recognizes only the
divine control of Spirit, in which Soul is our master,
and material sense and human will have no place.
SH 120:4-6
Soul, or Spirit, is God, unchangeable and eternal; and
man coexists with and reflects Soul, God, for man is God’s
image.
SH 172:15
If man was first a material being, he must have passed
through all the forms of matter in order to become man.
If the material body is man, he is a portion of
matter, or dust. On the contrary, man is the
image and likeness of Spirit; and the belief that there is
Soul in sense or Life in matter obtains in mortals, alias
mortal mind, to which the apostle refers when he says
that we must “put off the old man.
SH 204:30-6 2nd The
Mind.
The belief that God lives in matter is pantheistic. The
error, which says that Soul is in body, Mind is in matter,
and good is in evil, must unsay it and cease from such
utterances; else God will continue to be hidden from hu-
manity, and mortals will sin without knowing that they
are sinning, will lean on matter instead of Spirit, stumble
with lameness, drop with drunkenness, consume with dis-
case, – all because of their blindness, their false sense
concerning God and man.
SH 215:4-7
If Spirit, Soul, could sin or be lost, then being and im-
mortality would be lost, together with all the faculties of
Mind; but being cannot be lost while God ex-
ists.
SH 560:10-15
Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science inter-
prets the Principle of heavenly harmony. The great
miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and
the grand necessity of existence is to gain the
true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of
heaven in man.
SH 273:29-7
Science shows that material, conflicting mortal opin-
ions and beliefs emit the effects of error at all times, but
this atmosphere of mortal mind cannot be destructive to
morals and health when it is opposed promptly and per-
sistently by Christian Science. Truth and Love antidote
this mental miasma, and thus invigorate and sustain ex-
istence. Unnecessary knowledge gained from
the five senses is only temporal, – the concep-
tion of mortal mind, the offspring of sense, not
of Soul, Spirit, – and symbolizes all that is evil and
perishable.
SH 280:21-24
The argument of the serpent in the allegory, “Ye
shall be as gods,” urges through every avenue the belief
that Soul is in body, and that infinite Spirit, and Life, is
in finite forms.
SH 288:20-26
The chief stones in the temple of Christian Science are
to be found in the following postulates: that Life is God,
good, and not evil; that Soul is sinless, not
to be found in the body; that Spirit is not, and
cannot be, materialized; that Life is not subject
to death; that the spiritual real man has no birth, no ma-
terial life, and no death.
SH 302:19-24
The Science of being reveals man as perfect,
even as the Father is perfect, because the Soul, or Mind,
of the spiritual man is God, the divine Principle of all
being, and because this real man is governed by Soul
instead of sense, by the law of Spirit, not by the so-called
laws of matter.
SH 330:11-12 God
God is infinite, the only Life, substance, Spirit, or
Soul, the only intelligence of the universe, including man.
SH 335:18-20, 22
Spirit is eternal, divine. Noth-
ing but Spirit, Soul, can evolve Life, for Spirit
is more than all else.
Spirit, for Spirit is not finite. Only by losing the false
sense of Soul can we gain the eternal unfolding of Life as
immortality brought to light.
SH 396:26-30
Keep distinctly in
thought that man is the offspring of God, not of man;
that man is spiritual, not material; that Soul is Spirit,
outside of matter, never in it, never giving the body life
and sensation.
SH 590:1-3
KINGDOM OF HEAVEN. The rein of harmony in divine
Science; the realm of unerring, eternal, and omnipotent
Mind;
SH 477:7-8, 24-26
Soul, being Spirit, is seen in nothing imperfect
nor material.
Soul can never reflect anything inferior to
Spirit.
Man is the expression of Soul.
