With one accord in the fellowship of the spirit

With one accord in the fellowship of the spirit, Wed., 4/23/14 readings, 2nd Church Berkeley
SH II Cor. 1:3, 4
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.
SH Ruth 1:8, 14-16
8 And Naomi said unto her two daughters in law, Go, return each to her mother’s house: the LORD deal kindly with you, as ye have dealt with the dead, and with me. 14 And they lifted up their voice, and wept again: and Orpah kissed her mother in law; but Ruth clave unto her. 15 And she said, Behold, thy sister in law is gone back unto her people, and unto her gods: return thou after thy sister in law. 16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:
SH Josh. 1:1, 5 1st as
1 Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spake unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying, 5 …as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.
SH Eph. 2:19 1st ye
19 …ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
SH I Sam. 18:1, 3, 4
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul. 3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
SH Matt. 4:17 1st Jesus
17 …Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
SH Matt. 7:12 1st all
12 …all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
SH John 17:6 (to 1st :), 20, 21 (to 1st :)
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: 20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:
SH I Cor. 1:9
9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
SH Acts 5:12
12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch.
SH Acts 2:46
46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,
SH Phil. 2:1 (to 3rd ,), 2
1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
SH I John 1:3, 7 1st if (to 3rd ,)
3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 7 …if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another,
SH Matt. 18:20
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
SH 29:30-32
Man as the offspring of God, as the idea of Spirit,
is the immortal evidence that Spirit is harmonious and
man eternal.
SH 205:22-27, 32
When we realize that there is one Mind, the divine law
of loving our neighbor as ourselves is unfolded;
whereas a belief in many ruling minds hinders
man’s normal drift towards the one Mind, one
God, and leads human thought into opposite channels
where selfishness reigns.
When we fully understand our relation to the Divine,
we can have no other Mind but His, – no other Love,
wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no con-
sciousness of the existence of matter or error.
SH 102:31-2
Christian
Science despoils the kingdom of evil, and pre-eminently
promotes affection and virtue in families and therefore
in the community.
SH 430:13
I here present to my readers an allegory illustrative
of the law of divine Mind and of the supposed laws of mat-
ter and hygiene, an allegory in which the plea of Christian
Science heals the sick.
SH 434:30-32 ; 435:8

to die, but God made Man immortal and amenable to
Spirit only.

fore, then, in the name of outraged justice, do you sentence
Mortal Man for ministering to the wants of his fellow-man
in obedience to divine law?
SH 518:15-19
The rich in spirit help the poor in
one grand brotherhood, all having the same
Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth
his brother’s need and supplieth it, seeking his own in
another’s good.
SH 469:30-5
With
one Father, even God, the whole family of man would
be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good,
the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth,
and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which
constitute divine Science.
SH 276:4-9
When the divine precepts
are understood, they unfold the foundation of fellowship,
in which one mind is not at war with another, but all have
one Spirit, God, one intelligent source, in accordance with
the Scriptural command: “Let this Mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus.

Loving Servants of God’s Will

Loving Servants of God’s Will, Wednesday, 4/16/14 Readings, 2nd Church Berkeley
SH Deut. 3:24
24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
SH Ps. 119:124, 125
124 Deal with thy servant according unto thy mercy, and teach me thy statutes. 125 I am thy servant; give me understanding, that I may know thy testimonies.
SH Josh. 22:5 1st take
5 …take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
SH I Sam. 3:7-10 1st Samuel
7 …Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him. 8 And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child. 9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
SH Matt. 19:30
30 But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
SH John 13:3-5, 12-17
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; 4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. 5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded. 12 So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? 13 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
SH Mark 9:35
35 And he sat down, and called the twelve, and saith unto them, If any man desire to be first, the same shall be last of all, and servant of all.
SH Matt. 20:26 1st whosoever, 27
26 …whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; 27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
SH Gal. 5:13 1st brethren
13 …brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
SH Rom. 12:10, 11
10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
SH 43:32-4 Truth
Truth and Life must
seal the victory over error and death, before the thorns
can be laid aside for a crown, the benediction follow,
“Well done, good and faithful servant,” and the suprem-
acy of Spirit be demonstrated.
SH 119:27-1
As astron-
omy reverses the human perception of the
movement of the solar system, so Christian Science re-
verses the seeming relation of Soul and body and makes
body tributary to Mind. Thus it is with man, who
is but the humble servant of the restful Mind, though it
seems otherwise to finite sense.
SH 146:7
By
trusting matter to destroy its own discord, health and
harmony have been sacrificed. Such systems are barren
of the vitality of spiritual power, by which material sense
is made the servant of Science and religion becomes
Christlike.
SH 216:11-21
The understanding that the Ego is Mind, and that
there is but one Mind or intelligence, begins at once to
destroy the errors of mortal sense and to supply
the truth of immortal sense. This understand-
ing makes the body harmonious; it makes the nerves,
bones, brain, etc., servants, instead of masters. If man
is governed by the law of divine Mind, his body is in sub-
mission to everlasting Life and Truth and Love. The
great mistake of mortals is to suppose that man, God’s
image and likeness, is both matter and Spirit, both good
and evil.
SH 267:19-25
When examined in the light of divine Science, mortals
present more than is detected upon the surface, since
inverted thoughts and erroneous beliefs must
be counterfeits of Truth. Thought is bor-
rowed from a higher source than matter, and
by reversal, errors serve as waymarks to the one Mind,
in which all error disappears in celestial Truth.
SH 494:19-24
Reason, rightly di-
rected, serves to correct the errors of corporeal sense; but
sin, sickness, and death will seem real (even as the ex-
periences of the sleeping dream seem real) until the Sci-
ence of man’s eternal harmony breaks their illusion with
the unbroken reality of scientific being.
SH 201:1
THE best sermon ever preached is Truth practised
and demonstrated by the destruction of sin, sickness,
and death. Knowing this and knowing too
that one affection would be supreme in us and
take the lead in our lives, Jesus said, “No man can serve
two masters.
SH 79:29-3
Mind-science teaches that mortals need “not be weary
in well doing.” It dissipates fatigue in doing
good. Giving does not impoverish us in the
service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us.
We have strength in proportion to our apprehension of
the truth, and our strength is not lessened by giving
utterance to truth.
SH 51:28-4
Jesus was unselfish. His spirituality separated him
from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist
to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled
Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the
dead.
From early boyhood he was about his “Father’s busi-
ness.” His pursuits lay far apart from theirs. His mas-
ter was Spirit; their master was matter. He
served God;
SH 325:20-24
Paul had a clear sense of the demands of Truth upon
mortals physically and spiritually, when he said: “Pre-
sent your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, ac-
ceptable unto God, which is your reasonable
service.
SH 436:11-12
Giving a cup of cold water in Christ’s name, is a Christian
service.
SH 570:14-18, 23-24
Millions of unprejudiced minds – simple seekers for
Truth, weary wanderers, athirst in the desert – are wait-
ing and watching for rest and drink. Give
them a cup of cold water in Christ’s name,
and never fear the consequences.
Those ready for the blessing
you impart will give thanks.

Can a miracle really occur?

Can a miracle really occur? Wed., 4/9/14 Readings, 2nd Church Berkeley
SH Ps. 107:8, 9
8 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.
SH Ex. 7:8-12 1st the
8 …the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. 10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods.
SH Ex. 14:19 1st the, 20 (to 1st ;), 21, 22
19 …the angel of God, which went before the camp of Israel, removed and went behind them; and the pillar of the cloud went from before their face, and stood behind them: 20 And it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel; 21 And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. 22 And the children of Israel went into the midst of the sea upon the dry ground: and the waters were a wall unto them on their right hand, and on their left.
SH John 4:46-48 1st Jesus, 50-53 1st Go (to 1st :), 54
46 …Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum. 47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 50 …Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: 54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.
SH John 6:1, 2, 5, 8-14
1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias. 2 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. 5 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many? 10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. 11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
SH Num. 14:21 1st as
21 …as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.
SH 591:21-22
MIRACLE. That which is divinely natural, but must
be learned humanly;
SH 117:19-23
Human theories are inadequate to
interpret the divine Principle involved in the miracles
(marvels) wrought by Jesus and especially in his mighty,
crowning, unparalleled, and triumphant exit from the
flesh.
SH 123:16-29
The term CHRISTIAN SCIENCE was introduced by
the author to designate the scientific system of divine
healing.
The revelation consists of two parts:
1. The discovery of this divine Science of Mind-
healing, through a spiritual sense of the Scriptures and
through the teachings of the Comforter, as promised by
the Master.
2. The proof, by present demonstration, that the so-
called miracles of Jesus did not specially belong to a
dispensation now ended, but that they illustrated an
ever-operative divine Principle. The operation of this
Principle indicates the eternality of the scientific order
and continuity of being.
SH 131:26-29
The mission of Jesus confirmed prophecy, and ex-
plained the so-called miracles of olden time as natural
demonstrations of the divine power, demonstra-
tions which were not understood.
SH 134:21-1
The true Logos is demonstrably Christian Science, the
natural law of harmony which overcomes discord, – not
because this Science is supernatural or pre-
ternatural, nor because it is an infraction of
divine law, but because it is the immutable law of God,
good. Jesus said: “I knew that Thou hearest me al-
ways;” and he raised Lazarus from the dead, stilled the
tempest, healed the sick, walked on the water. There
is divine authority for believing in the superiority of
spiritual power over material resistance.
A miracle fulfils God’s law, but does not violate that
law. This fact at present seems more mysterious than
the miracle itself.
SH 135:6-8
Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob.” The miracle
introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order,
establishing the Science of God’s unchangeable law.
SH 139:6-9
Moses proved the power of Mind by what men
called miracles; so did Joshua, Elijah, and
Elisha. The Christian era was ushered in with signs and
wonders.
SH 243:4-9
The divine Love, which made harmless the poisonous
viper, which delivered men from the boiling oil, from
the fiery furnace, from the jaws of the lion,
can heal the sick in every age and triumph
over sin and death. It crowned the demon-
strations of Jesus with unsurpassed power and love.
SH 319:17-20
Mystery, miracle,
sin, and death will disappear when it becomes
fairly understood that the divine Mind controls man and
man has no Mind but God.
SH 343:14-20
Jesus strips all disguise from error, when his teachings
are fully understood. By parable and argument he ex-
plains the impossibility of good producing evil;
and he also scientifically demonstrates this great
fact, proving by what are wrongly called miracles, that
sin, sickness, and death are beliefs – illusive errors –
which he could and did destroy.
SH 560:11-15
The great
miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and
the grand necessity of existence is to gain the
true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of
heaven in man.
SH 494:15 The (only)
The miracle of grace is no miracle to Love.

work? His work is done, and we have only to avail
ourselves of God’s rule in order to receive His bless-
ing, which enables us to work out our own salvation.
Are we really grateful for the good
already received? Then we shall avail ourselves of the
blessings we have, and thus be fitted to receive more.
If we are ungrateful for Life, Truth, and Love, and
yet return thanks to God for all blessings, we are in-
sincere and incur the sharp censure our Master pro-
nounces on hypocrites. In such a case, the only
acceptable prayer is to put the finger on the lips and
remember our blessings.
SH 4:12
The habitual struggle to be always good is unceas-
ing prayer. Its motives are made manifest in the
blessings they bring,- blessings which, even if not
acknowledged in audible words, attest our worthiness
to be partakers of Love.
SH 15:28-30
Practice not profession, understanding not
belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and
they assuredly call down infinite blessings.
SH 19:6
Truth and error are irreconcilable. Jesus aided in recon-
ciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love,
the divine Principle of Jesus’ teachings, and this truer
sense of Love redeems man from the law of matter,
sin, and death by the law of Spirit,- the law of divine
Love.
SH 13:16-19

estly and silently and humbly, God will bless it, and
we shall incur less risk of overwhelming our real
wishes with a torrent of words.
SH 20:14
Jesus bore our infirmities; he knew the error of mortal
belief, and “with his stripes [the rejection of error] we are
healed.” “Despised and rejected of men,”
returning blessing for cursing, he taught mor-
tals the opposite of themselves, even the nature of God;
and when error felt the power of Truth, the scourge and
the cross awaited the great Teacher. Yet he swerved not,
well knowing that to obey the divine order and trust God,
saves retracing and traversing anew the path from sin to
holiness.
SH 65:1-2
Experience should be the school of virtue, and human
happiness should proceed from man’s highest nature.
SH 238:1
Motives and acts are not rightly valued before they are
understood. It is well to wait till those whom you would
benefit are ready for the blessing, for Science
is working changes in personal character as
well as in the material universe.
To obey the Scriptural command, “Come out from
among them, and be ye separate,” is to incur society’s
frown; but this frown, more than flatteries, enables one
to be Christian. Losing her crucifix, the Roman Catholic
girl said, “I have nothing left but Christ.” “If God be
for us, who can be against us?
SH 324:32
Jesus said substantially, “He that believeth in me
shall not see death.” That is, he who perceives the
true idea of Life loses his belief in death. He who has
the true idea of good loses all sense of evil,
and by reason of this is being ushered into the
undying realities of Spirit. Such a one abideth in Life, –
life obtained not of the body incapable of supporting life,
but of Truth, unfolding its own immortal idea. Jesus
gave the true idea of being, which results in infinite bless-
ings to mortals.
SH 512:8
Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power,
and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love. These an-
gels of His presence, which have the holiest
charge, abound in the spiritual atmosphere of
Mind, and consequently reproduce their own character-
istics. Their individual forms we know not, but we do
know that their natures are allied to God’s nature; and
spiritual blessings, thus typified, are the externalized, yet
subjective, states of faith and spiritual understanding.
SH 570:23-2
Those ready for the blessing
you impart will give thanks. The waters will be paci-
fied, and Christ will command the wave.
When God heals the sick or the sinning, they should
know the great benefit which Mind has wrought. They
should also know the great delusion of mor-
tal mind, when it makes them sick or sinful.
Many are willing to open the eyes of the people to the
power of good resident in divine Mind, but they are
not so willing to point out the evil in human thought,
and expose evil’s hidden mental ways of accomplishing

The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth

2nd Church, Berkeley, Wednesday, March 26, 2014 Readings on “The Kingdom of Heaven on Earth”
SH Ps. 57:5
5 Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens; let thy glory be above all the earth.
SH Gen. 1:1, 11, 26, 28 (to 1st :)
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it:
SH Gen. 2:1
1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
SH Deut. 3:24
24 O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?
SH Ps. 46:1, 2
1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;
SH Ps. 46:10 (to 1st :), 11 (to 1st .)
10 Be still, and know that I am God: 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge.
SH Ps. 50:1, 2
1 The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof. 2 Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
SH Ps. 67:1 (to 2nd ;), 2
1 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; 2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
SH Matt. 16:13-19 (to 1st :)
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven:
SH Matt. 23:9
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
SH Matt. 24:35
35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
SH II Pet. 3:13 1st we
13 …we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.
SH 572:19-25
In Revelation xxi. 1 we read: –
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first
heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was
no more sea.
The Revelator had not yet passed the transitional
stage in human experience called death, but he already
saw a new heaven and a new earth.
SH 573:5-9, 13-17
This testimony of Holy
Writ sustains the fact in Science, that the heavens and
earth to one human consciousness, that consciousness
which God bestows, are spiritual, while to another, the
unillumined human mind, the vision is material.
Accompanying this scientific consciousness was an-
other revelation, even the declaration from heaven, su-
preme harmony, that God, the divine Principle
of harmony, is ever with men, and they are
His people.
SH 263:7-10
When mortal man blends his thoughts of existence
with the spiritual and works only as God works,
he will no longer grope in the dark and cling
to earth because he has not tasted heaven.
SH 339:20-25
XXXII. As the mythology of pagan Rome has yielded
to a more spiritual idea of Deity, so will our material
theories yield to spiritual ideas, until the finite
gives place to the infinite, sickness to health,
sin to holiness, and God’s kingdom comes “in
earth, as it is in heaven.
SH 72:30-32
Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the com-
municator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and
humanity.
SH 90:24-25
The admission to one’s self that man is God’s own like-
ness sets man free to master the infinite idea.
SH 361:25-28
A germ of in-
finite Truth, though least in the kingdom of heaven is the
higher hope on earth, but it will be rejected and reviled
until God prepares the soil for the seed.
SH 53:16-18
The world could not interpret aright the discomfort
which Jesus inspired and the spiritual blessings which
might flow from such discomfort.
SH 54:1
Through the
magnitude of his human life, he demonstrated the divine
Life. Out of the amplitude of his pure affection, he de-
fined Love. With the affluence of Truth, he vanquished
error. The world acknowledged not his righteousness,
seeing it not; but earth received the harmony his glorified
example introduced.
SH 191:13
Thus the whole
earth will be transformed by Truth on its pinions of light,
chasing away the darkness of error.
SH 253:9-14
I hope, dear reader, I am leading you into the under-
standing of your divine rights, your heaven-bestowed har-
mony, – that, as you read, you see there is no
cause (outside of erring, mortal, material sense
which is not power) able to make you sick or
sinful;
SH 122:1-7
The evidence of the physical senses often reverses the
real Science of being, and so creates a reign of discord, –
assigning seeming power to sin, sickness, and
death; but the great facts of Life, rightly un-
derstood, defeat this triad of errors, contradict their false
witnesses, and reveal the kingdom of heaven, – the actual
reign of harmony on earth.
SH 118:26
The definitions of material law, as given by natural
science, represent a kingdom necessarily divided against
itself, because these definitions portray law as
physical, not spiritual. Therefore they con-
tradict the divine decrees and violate the law of Love, in
which nature and God are one and the natural order of
heaven comes down to earth.
SH 202:17-23
God, neither sins, suffers, nor dies. The days
of our pilgrimage will multiply instead of di-
minish, when God’s kingdom comes on earth; for the
true way leads to life instead of to death, and earthly
experience discloses the finity of error and the infinite
capacities of Truth, in which God gives man dominion
over all the earth.
SH 560:10-15
Heaven represents harmony, and divine Science inter-
prets the Principle of heavenly harmony. The great
miracle, to human sense, is divine Love, and
the grand necessity of existence is to gain the
true idea of what constitutes the kingdom of
heaven in man.

SH Acts 17:24, 26
24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
SH Col. 1:12, 17

SH John 8:28
28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
SH John 10:30, 38 1st that

As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.
SH Ps. 55:22, 23 1st I

SH Eph. 4:13
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
SH 309:24-26
The Science of being shows it to be impossible for in-
finite Spirit or Soul to be in a finite body or for man to
have an intelligence separate from his Maker.
SH 42:19-20
The belief that man has existence or mind separate from
God is a dying error.
SH 205:32-3
When we fully understand our relation to the Divine,
we can have no other Mind but His, – no other Love,
wisdom, or Truth, no other sense of Life, and no con-
sciousness of the existence of matter or error.
SH 468:10-11
All is infinite Mind and its infinite
manifestation, for God is All-in-all.
SH 522:10-11
Existence, separate from divinity, Science
explains as impossible.
SH 467:9-10
It should be thoroughly understood that all men have one
Mind, one God and Father, one Life, Truth, and Love.
SH 469:30-5
With
one Father, even God, the whole family of man would
be brethren; and with one Mind and that God, or good,
the brotherhood of man would consist of Love and Truth,
and have unity of Principle and spiritual power which
constitute divine Science.
SH 502:22-27
1. In the beginning God created the heaven
and the earth.
The infinite has no beginning. This word beginning
is employed to signify the only, – that is, the eternal ver-
ity and unity of God and man, including
the universe.
SH 480:10-12
Consciousness, as well as action, is governed
by Mind, – is in God, the origin and gov-
ernor of all that Science reveals.
SH 18:3-5
Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated
man’s oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him
endless homage.
SH 136:1-2, 5-6
Jesus established his church and maintained his mission
on a spiritual foundation of Christ-healing.
He claimed no intelli-
gence, action, nor life separate from God.
SH 51:12
Jesus could give his temporal life into his
enemies’ hands; but when his earth-mission was accom-
plished, his spiritual life, indestructible and eternal,
was found forever the same. He knew that matter had
no life and that real Life is God; therefore he could no
more be separated from his spiritual Life than God could
be extinguished.
SH 303:28-30
Spiritual man is the image or idea of
God, an idea which cannot be lost nor sep-
arated from its divine Principle.
SH 267:3-6
The offspring of God start not from matter
or ephemeral dust. They are in and of Spirit,
divine Mind, and so forever continue. God is one. The
allness of Deity is His oneness.
SH 515:16-20
The eternal Elohim includes the forever universe.
The name Elohim is in the plural, but this plurality of
Spirit does not imply more than one God, nor
does it imply three persons in one. It relates
to the oneness, the triunity of Life, Truth, and Love.
SH 548:2-5
Christian
Science separates error from truth, and breathes
through the sacred pages the spiritual sense of
life, substance, and intelligence.
SH 264:15-19
When we
realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of
matter, this understanding will expand into self-com-
pleteness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other
consciousness.
SH 577:9-11
In this divinely united spiritual consciousness, there is no
impediment to eternal bliss, – to the perfectibility of
God’s creation.
SH 519:17-21
How shall we declare Him, till,
in the language of the apostle, “we all come in the unity
of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto
a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the ful-
ness of Christ”?

Tender Mercies, Sweet Persuasions

2nd Church, Berkeley Wed., 3/12/14 Readings on “Tender Mercies, Sweet Persuasions”
SH Ps. 40:1, 3 (to 1st :), 5, 8, 10, 11
1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. 3 And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: 5 Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. 8 I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. 10 I have not hid thy righteousness within my heart; I have declared thy faithfulness and thy salvation: I have not concealed thy lovingkindness and thy truth from the great congregation. 11 Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O LORD: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me.

SH Isa. 40:11

SH John 15:7, 9
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

SH Eph. 4:32 1st be
32 …be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.
SH 3:12-16
The Divine Being must be reflected by man, – else
man is not the image and likeness of the patient,
tender, and true, the One “altogether lovely;” but to
understand God is the work of eternity, and demands
absolute consecration of thought, energy, and desire.
SH 57:4-11, 23-24
Union of the masculine and feminine qualities consti-
tutes completeness. The masculine mind reaches a
higher tone through certain elements of the
feminine, while the feminine mind gains cour-
age and strength through masculine qualities. These
different elements conjoin naturally with each other, and
their true harmony is in spiritual oneness. Both sexes
should be loving, pure, tender, and strong.
Love enriches the nature, en-
larging, purifying, and elevating it.
SH 411:32-1, 4-5, 7 be
If you succeed in wholly removing the fear,
your patient is healed.
If the student silently called the disease by name, when
he argued against it, as a general rule the body
son replies more readily when his name is spoken; but
this was because the student was not perfectly attuned to
divine Science, and needed the arguments of truth for
reminders. If Spirit or the power of divine Love bear
witness to the truth, this is the ultimatum, the scientific
way, and the healing is instantaneous.
SH 332:4 Father-Mother
Father-Mother is the name for Deity, which in-
dicates His tender relationship to His spiritual creation.
As the apostle expressed it in words which he
quoted with approbation from a classic poet:
“For we are also His offspring.
SH 362:1-12 this
IT is related in the seventh chapter of Luke’s Gospel
that Jesus was once the honored guest of a certain
Pharisee, by name Simon, though he was quite unlike
Simon the disciple. While they were at meat, an unusual
incident occurred, as if to interrupt the scene
of Oriental festivity. A “strange woman”
came in. Heedless of the fact that she was debarred from
such a place and such society, especially under the stern
rules of rabbinical law, as positively as if she were a Hin-
doo pariah intruding upon the household of a high-caste
Brahman, this woman (Mary Magdalene, as she has
since been called) approached Jesus.
SH 363:8
Did Jesus spurn the woman? Did he repel her adora-
tion? No! He regarded her compassionately. Nor was
this all. Knowing what those around him
were saying in their hearts, especially his host,
– that they were wondering why, being a prophet, the
exalted guest did not at once detect the woman’s immoral
status and bid her depart, – knowing this, Jesus rebuked
them with a short story or parable. He described two
debtors, one for a large sum and one for a smaller, who
were released from their obligations by their common
creditor. “Which of them will love him most?” was the
Master’s question to Simon the Pharisee; and Simon re-
plied, “He to whom he forgave most.” Jesus approved
the answer, and so brought home the lesson to all, follow-
ing it with that remarkable declaration to the woman,
“Thy sins are forgiven.
SH 366:30-23
If we would open their prison doors for the sick, we
must first learn to bind up the broken-hearted. If we
would heal by the Spirit, we must not hide the talent
of spiritual healing under the napkin of its form, nor
bury the morale of Christian Science in the grave-clothes
of its letter. The tender word and Christian
encouragement of an invalid, pitiful patience
with his fears and the removal of them, are better than
hecatombs of gushing theories, stereotyped borrowed
speeches, and the doling of arguments, which are but so
many parodies on legitimate Christian Science, aflame
with divine Love.
This is what is meant by seeking Truth, Christ, not
“for the loaves and fishes,” nor, like the Pharisee, with
the arrogance of rank and display of scholar-
ship, but like Mary Magdalene, from the sum-
mit of devout consecration, with the oil of gladness and
the perfume of gratitude, with tears of repentance and
with those hairs all numbered by the Father.
A Christian Scientist occupies the place at this period
of which Jesus spoke to his disciples, when he said: “Ye
are the salt of the earth.” “Ye are the light
of the world. A city that is set on an hill can-
not be hid.” Let us watch, work, and pray that this salt
lose not its saltness, and that this light be not hid, but
radiate and glow into noontide glory.
SH 507:3-6
Spirit duly

of spiritual creation, thus tenderly expressing the father-
hood and motherhood of God.

God is the Source of Health

Wednesday, 3/5/14 reading on “God is the source of health”, 2nd Church, Berkeley
SH Prov. 16:22 (to 1st :), 23, 24
22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: 23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth, and addeth learning to his lips. 24 Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.
SH Ps. 67:1 (to 2nd ;), 2
1 God be merciful unto us, and bless us; and cause his face to shine upon us; 2 That thy way may be known upon earth, thy saving health among all nations.
SH Isa. 58:8 (to 1st ;)
8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee;
SH Jer. 30:17 1st I (to 1st ;)
17 …I will restore health unto thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the LORD;
SH Ps. 27:1 2nd the
1 …the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
SH Luke 4:14
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.
SH Luke 5:17
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
SH Luke 6:6-8, 10
6 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. 7 And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. 8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 10 And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
SH Luke 6:19
19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all.
SH Luke 7:22 1st the
22 …the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
SH Mark 3:7 1st Jesus (to 1st :), 9, 10, 13-16
7 …Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: 9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. 10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. 13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. 14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: 16 And Simon he surnamed Peter;
SH Matt. 10:7, 8
7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.
SH Acts 9:32-34
32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. 33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. 34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately.
SH Col. 1:1 (to 2nd ,), 12, 13
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
SH III John 1:2
2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
SH 1:6-9
Prayer, watching, and working, combined with self-im-
molation, are God’s gracious means for accomplishing
whatever has been successfully done for the Christian-
ization and health of mankind.
SH 37:22-25
port of that career! It is possible, – yea, it is the duty
and privilege of every child, man, and woman, – to follow
in some degree the example of the Master by the demon-
stration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness.
SH 51:28
Jesus was unselfish. His spirituality separated him
from sensuousness, and caused the selfish materialist
to hate him; but it was this spirituality which enabled
Jesus to heal the sick, cast out evil, and raise the
dead.
SH 52:1-2 (to 1st .), 5
From early boyhood he was about his “Father’s busi-
ness.
His senses drank in
the spiritual evidence of health, holiness, and life; their
senses testified oppositely, and absorbed the material evi-
dence of sin, sickness, and death.
SH 72:30-32
Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the com-
municator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and
humanity.
SH 79:5-6
Thousands of instances could be cited of health restored
by changing the patient’s thoughts regarding death.
SH 120:15 (to ;)
Health is not a condition of matter, but of Mind; nor
can the material senses bear reliable testimony on the sub-
ject of health. The Science of Mind-healing
shows it to be impossible for aught but Mind
to testify truly or to exhibit the real status of man. There-
fore the divine Principle of Science, reversing the testi-
mony of the physical senses, reveals man as harmoniously
existent in Truth, which is the only basis of health; and
thus Science denies all disease, heals the sick, overthrows
false evidence, and refutes materialistic logic.
SH 162:16-19
Working
out the rules of Science in practice, the author has re-
stored health in cases of both acute and chronic disease in
their severest forms.
SH 186:5-7
Christian Science destroys material beliefs through the
understanding of Spirit, and the thoroughness of this work
determines health.
SH 194:8-9
When one’s false belief is corrected
Truth sends a report of health over the body.
SH 224:22-25
A higher and more practical Christianity, demonstrat-
ing justice and meeting the needs of mortals in sickness
and in health, stands at the door of this age, knocking
for admission.
SH 299:26-30
Corporeal sense, or error, may seem to hide Truth,
health, harmony, and Science, as the mist obscures the
sun or the mountain; but Science, the sunshine of Truth,
will melt away the shadow and reveal the celestial
peaks.
SH 371:28 2nd Mind
the fact that Mind can do it; for Mind can impart
purity instead of impurity, strength instead of weak-
ness, and health instead of disease. Truth is an altera-
tive in the entire system, and can make it “every whit
whole.
SH 412:24-27
Realize the presence
of health and the fact of harmonious being, until the
body corresponds with the normal conditions of health
and harmony.
SH 462:25-31
The anatomy of Christian
Science teaches when and how to probe the self-in-
flicted wounds of selfishness, malice, envy, and hate. It
teaches the control of mad ambition. It unfolds the
hallowed influences of unselfishness, philanthropy, spir-
itual love. It urges the government of the body both
in health and in sickness.
SH 485:14-17
Emerge gently from matter into Spirit. Think not
to thwart the spiritual ultimate of all things, but come
naturally into Spirit through better health and
morals and as the result of spiritual growth.
SH 428:30-32
The author has healed hopeless organic disease, and
raised the dying to life and health through the under-
standing of God as the only Life.

SH 697:8-19 (to 1st .)

I had been in my sister’s home but

a few days, reading Science and Health almost con
stantly, when I asked her if I had not better have

treatment for the tumor, which had given me so much

trouble.
She said to me, “You feel well, do you not?”

I assured her that I never had felt so well as I had since

reaching there.
“Well,” she said with decision, “your

tumor is gone, for God never made it,” and her statements

were true, for it has never been heard of from that day.

Since then I have been healed of chronic sore throat,

hay fever, and other troubles, and I know that Christian

Science is the truth.

Lifted up by Love

Lifted up by Love, Wed., 2/26/14 Readings, 2nd Church, Berkeley
Hymns: 322,447,226
SH Ex. 17:9-12
9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand. 10 So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill. 11 And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
SH Job 22:12, 21, 26
12 Is not God in the height of heaven? and behold the height of the stars, how high they are! 21 Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee. 26 For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God.

SH Ps. 24:9, 10 (to 1st .)
9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.
SH Ps. 25:1
1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
SH Ps. 28:9
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.
SH Ps. 30:1
1 I will extol thee, O LORD; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
SH Ps. 86:4
4 Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
SH Ps. 147:6 (to 1st :)
6 The LORD lifteth up the meek:
SH Isa. 2:2, 4
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. 4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.
SH Isa. 40:26
26 Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.
SH Matt. 4:23
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
SH Mark 1:30 1st Simon’s, 31
30 …Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her. 31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
SH John 4:35
35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
SH John 12:32
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.
SH John 17:1
1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
SH Heb. 12:1, 12, 13
1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
SH James 4:10
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
SH 60:2-3
Science inevitably lifts one’s being higher in the scale of
harmony and happiness.
SH 95:30-32
Material sense does not unfold the facts of
existence; but spiritual sense lifts human
consciousness into eternal Truth.
SH 114:23-25
Christian Science explains all cause and effect as men-
tal, not physical. It lifts the veil of mystery from Soul and
body.
SH 259:6-11 The
The
divine nature was best expressed in Christ Jesus, who
threw upon mortals the truer reflection of God and lifted
their lives higher than their poor thought-models would
allow, – thoughts which presented man as fallen, sick,
sinning, and dying.
SH 400:18-19
By lifting thought above error, or disease, and con-
tending persistently for truth, you destroy error.
SH 407:10
If man is not victorious over the passions, they crush
out happiness, health, and manhood. Here Christian
Science is the sovereign panacea, giving strength to the
weakness of mortal mind, – strength from the immortal
and omnipotent Mind, – and lifting humanity above
itself into purer desires, even into spiritual power and
good-will to man.
SH 513:6-10
Advancing spiritual steps in the teeming universe of
Mind lead on to spiritual spheres and exalted beings. To
material sense, this divine universe is dim and
distant, gray in the sombre hues of twilight;
but anon the veil is lifted, and the scene shifts into light.
SH 520:26
Mor-
tal thought drops into the ground, but the immortal creat-
ing thought is from above, not from beneath. Because
Mind makes all, there is nothing left to be made by a
lower power. Spirit acts through the Science of Mind,
never causing man to till the ground, but making him
superior to the soil. Knowledge of this lifts man above
the sod, above earth and its environments, to conscious
spiritual harmony and eternal being.
SH 547:25-32
The true the-
ory of the universe, including man, is not in
material history but in spiritual development.
Inspired thought relinquishes a material, sensual, and
mortal theory of the universe, and adopts the spiritual and
immortal.
It is this spiritual perception of Scripture, which lifts
humanity out of disease and death and inspires faith.
SH 557:18-21
“In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children.” Divine
Science rolls back the clouds of error with the light of
Truth, and lifts the curtain on man as never born and as
never dying, but as coexistent with his creator.

Partners of a Glorious Hope

Wednesday, 2/19 Readings on “Partners of a Glorious Hope”
Ps. 42:5
5Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall  yet praise him for the help of his countenance.Isa. 7:14 Behold
14 …Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
SH Isa. 9:2, 6, 7 (to 1st .)
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.

SH Matt. 18:1, 2, 4, 5, 10 (to 1st ;), 11, 12-14
1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven? 2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me. 10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; 11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
SH Luke 12:32
32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
SH Titus 2:1, 13
1 But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
SH Ps. 42:11
11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.
SH 14:12-20 (to ;)
Become conscious for a single moment that Life and
intelligence are purely spiritual, – neither in nor of
matter, – and the body will then utter no
complaints. If suffering from a belief in
sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well. Sorrow
is turned into joy when the body is controlled by spir-
itual Life, Truth, and Love. Hence the hope of the
promise Jesus bestows: “He that believeth on me,
the works that I do shall he do also;
SH 22:3
Vibrating like a pendulum between sin and the hope
of forgiveness,- selfishness and sensuality causing con-
stant retrogression,- our moral progress will
be slow. Waking to Christ’s demand, mortals
experience suffering. This causes them, even as drown-
ing men, to make vigorous efforts to save themselves; and
through Christ’s precious love these efforts are crowned
with success.
SH 45:16
Glory be to God, and peace to the struggling hearts!
Christ hath rolled away the stone from the door of hu-
man hope and faith, and through the reve-
lation and demonstration of life in God, hath
elevated them to possible at-one-ment with the spiritual
idea of man and his divine Principle, Love.
SH 66:10-14
nates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes,
but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher
joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth. Each suc-
cessive stage of experience unfolds new views of divine
goodness and love.
SH 108:30
My discovery, that erring, mortal, misnamed
mind produces all the organism and action of
the mortal body, set my thoughts to work in new channels,
and led up to my demonstration of the proposition that
Mind is All and matter is naught as the leading factor in
Mind-science.
SH 109:11-16
For three years after my discovery, I sought the solu-
tion of this problem of Mind-healing, searched the Scrip-
tures and read little else, kept aloof from so-
ciety, and devoted time and energies to dis-
covering a positive rule. The search was sweet, calm, and
buoyant with hope, not selfish nor depressing.
SH 151:31
That mortal mind claims to govern every organ of the
mortal body, we have overwhelming proof. But this so-
called mind is a myth, and must by its own consent yield
to Truth. It would wield the sceptre of a monarch, but
it is powerless. The immortal divine Mind
takes away all its supposed sovereignty, and
saves mortal mind from itself. The author has endeavored
to make this book the AEsculapius of mind as well as of
body, that it may give hope to the sick and heal them,
although they know not how the work is done. Truth
has a healing effect, even when not fully understood.
SH 531:8
It is well that the upper portions of the brain represent
the higher moral sentiments, as if hope were ever prophe-
sying thus: The human mind will sometime
rise above all material and physical sense, ex-
changing it for spiritual perception, and exchanging hu-
man concepts for the divine consciousness. Then man
will recognize his God-given dominion and being.
SH 451:14
Man walks in the
direction towards which he looks, and where his treasure
is, there will his heart be also. If our hopes and affec-
tions are spiritual, they come from above, not from be-
neath, and they bear as of old the fruits of the Spirit.
SH 446:20-23
To understand
God strengthens hope, enthrones faith in Truth, and
verifies Jesus’ word: “Lo, I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world.
SH 420:17-19
The fact that Truth overcomes both disease
and sin reassures depressed hope. It imparts a healthy
stimulus to the body, and regulates the system.
SH 394:7-10
Knowledge that we
can accomplish the good we hope for, stimu-
lates the system to act in the direction which Mind points
out.
SH 298:13-20
Spiritual sense, contradicting the material senses, in-
volves intuition, hope, faith, understanding, fruition, real-
ity. Material sense expresses the belief that mind is in
matter. This human belief, alternating between a sense
of pleasure and pain, hope and fear, life and death, never
reaches beyond the boundary of the mortal or the unreal.
When the real is attained, which is announced by Science,
joy is no longer a trembler, nor is hope a cheat.
SH 298:4-7
As a cloud hides the sun it
cannot extinguish, so false belief silences for a while the
voice of immutable harmony, but false belief cannot de-
stroy Science armed with faith, hope, and fruition.
